Re-homing Unwanted Animals
Unfortunately, the Branch currently does not have the resources to open and run its own animal centre. However, taking in and re-homing unwanted or abandoned cats and dogs is one of the Branch's most important activities. The Branch achieves this by using private catteries and kennels to board the animals.
Some of the animals that come into the care of the Branch are "at risk" animals which the local RSPCA Inspectors (who are employed by the National Society) come across in the course of their duties. Other animals come from members of the public who for various reasons are unable, or unwilling, to care for their animals. Sadly there is always a huge list of animals waiting to come into our care as boarding space is very limited.
Once the cat or dog is ready for a new home, it will be advertised and can be viewed by people interested in adopting. A home visit is then carried out by the Branch to try and ensure that the animal goes to the right home.
If you would be interested in adopting a cat or dog please contact the Branch via our helpdesk
Fostering
The Branch has recently set up a fostering scheme for dogs, cats and kittens where the animals are cared for in a fosterer's home whilst a new home is found. This helps the animal adjust to home life away from the cattery or kennels and also frees up accomadation for other urgent cases. It is hoped this scheme will be expanded in the future.
